The groups of young people today assembled in front of the Honiara City Council and worked together in helping to maintain the beauty of the capital city.
Speaking to Solomon Times, those participating said the clean up programme is on voluntary basis for any members the the public who would like to lend a helping hand.
Participating volunteers said the initiative is good to help maintain cleanliness in Honiara City, especially in time for Christmas season.
A volunteer, who is a teacher who was, "waiting for our traveling fare but still nothing from responsible authorities", said she decided to take part in the programme while waiting, to help maintain the city's beauty.
The clean up programme is part of the Japan Sponsored Programme to be held at the Honiara City Council Area, which will include, among other activities, presentation of speeches, painting of drums.
Volunteers who gave time and effort to lend a helping hand in cleaning Honiara City received t-shirts and hand bags.

Different youth groups and public volunteers joined hands and teamed up to promote a Japan International Cooperation Agency sponsored programme based on the theme: Keep Honiara Clean, Think About the Future.
