Speaking at last Friday's ceremony, the Vice President of the Solomon Islands National Rugby Union Federation, Jay Kabei said that this marks another stepping stone for the sport.
"This signifies a milestone for rugby to have its own stadium," Mr. Kabei said.
In response, government representative, acting Sports Minister, Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo said that the government appreciates the effort of the rugby federation to see this day eventuate.
The effort and commitment will see the completion of the first rugby stadium in the heart of the capital city.
"Today we witness yet again another new height for rugby in the Solomon Islands, taking in the right direction as soccer," he said.
The rugby stadium will be built by the Austree Company.
