Western health environmental officer, Rendy Solomon said urgent preventative measures include the production of information sheets about the disease, made available to almost all health centres in Western and Choiseul provinces.

Ms Solomon said that the more informed people are, the lesser the chance of them getting infected.

Ms Solomon said that people along the common border have also been advised to restrict their movements across the border.

Meanwhile she warns travellers to the Western parts of the country to take the time to collect information service sheets about the disease from the health centre nearest to them.

Ms Solomon stressed that tougher preventative measures now would ensure Solomon Islands are not "taken by surprise."

She explains that Cholera is a dangerous disease which, if not treated properly, could result in death.

Symptoms include severe diarrhoea, vomiting and fever.
