The Dominion Post reports that the kind gesture is the second in two years for Constable Dean Gifford who "has done the rounds to take much-needed supplies to the children of the Solomon Islands."
It was reported that Mr. Gifford's gifts to the Solomons children was prompted by reports from police friends who have gone on trips to the islands.
Constable Gifford is reported to have approached sports stores and businesses and even raided unclaimed bikes at the station.
"It's just so easy to do," the Dominion Post quotes Constable Gifford as stating.
Nearly three tonnes of equipment, including diving gear, fishing rods, more than 100 soccer balls, 11 bikes and 160 kilograms of toys, will be flown by Royal New Zealand Air Force Hercules to Honiara tomorrow.
