Five provinces, namely Choiseul, Isabel, Makira, Rennell/Bellona and Temotu will benefit from the project, which seeks to improve water supply and sanitation facilities within the next four years.
More than SB$26 million dollars will be invested to accelerate the delivery of sustainable access to water and sanitation services in these five provinces.
The project is funded from the ACP-EU Facility and is being implemented by UNICEF in partnership with Live and Learn Environmental Education Solomon Islands.
A short statement from UNICEF says that the Right to Water, recently proclaimed by the United Nations, is "indispensable for leading a life in human dignity" and "a prerequisite for the realization of other human rights."
It is understood that the same project will extend to other provinces at a later date.
Water Project Reaches the Province
A water facility project will be launched in Honiara this afternoon by the Solomon Islands Government, the European Union and UNICEF.
