In an e-mail to the Solomon Times Francis, a final year politics student stated that he is concerned that USP may fall victim to regional politics.
"USP is a regional institution and I am just worried that if Forum Members take a stand on the Fiji problems, it might have a negative effect on USP," Francis said. "I am sure Forum Members will be forced to make a decision soon on how they should respond to the crises...I hope they keep in mind that thousands of Pacific Islanders are hosted by Fiji in USP."
Meanwhile, Director of the National Training Unit in the Ministry of Education Selu Maezama says the University's Vice Chancellor has advised that additional measures have been taken to boost the security of USP and that the University continues to operate normally.
Mr Maezama says the Solomon Islands High Commission in Suva has been in touch with student bodies from the various tertiary institutions.
He says the High Commission has cautioned students to minimise their movements in and out of their respective campuses.
Solomon Islands have the second highest number of students studying at the Laucala campus in Suva, Fiji.
