Reports from Fiji media say the staff at the USP's Laucala campus in Suva, Fiji, have begun their strike after warning management this week.
According to the Fiji Times Online, the Union had given management their 21-days strike notice following grievances over the 'dissolving of the Media Centre on August 1 this year with no notice in writing given to union members on their future at the USP while there has been no advertising of vacant positions available at the University'.
The USP management had responded to the notice by filing a trade dispute with the Ministry of Labour and in a secret ballot on Tuesday, staff union members voted in favour of a strike.
Consequently, the graduation ceremony for the university that was planned for today is now uncertain.

Staff of the University of the South Pacific who are members of the USP Staff Union have gone on strike with numbers increasing by the hour.
