SINTA has demanded that the government approves an 11.5 percent Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) increase to teachers.

Johnly Hatimoana, SINTA's industrial relations officer, says the Government's reluctance to consider the increase of their wages since they were presented last year has led to the likely strike.

He says they will be having a meeting with the National Executive Council of SINTA on this morning to endorse the industrial action.

Mr Hatimoana appeals to the teachers and other public officers in the country that the issue is being discussed. A decision is expected to be reached before the end of the week.
