Speaking to SIBC News the association's Industrial Relations Officer, Johnly Hatimoana, says more than five hundred teachers in various schools in both Honiara and the provinces have gone without their salaries for more than four fortnights now.

Mr Hatimoana says this is very unfair and frustrating for the teachers. "These teachers have been attending classes without being paid for the important service they provide."

He says these teachers must be paid as they also have family commitments like paying for food and their children's school fees.

Mr Hatimoana says SINTA will stop work if the Education Ministry turns a deaf ear on their demands.

SIBC News understands that the Education Ministry has ceased these teachers' salaries in December and January last year and failed to reinstate the payments as they promised.
