Ambassador of Taiwan to Solomon Islands George Chan released the money to Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua.
Ambassador Chan told Dr Sikua that "education and human resources development are top priority projects to any government as they are a strong foundation for a national economic growth."
Ambassador Chan said he believes that the project would assist in removing the school fees, so more children can gain an education opportunity.
He said literacy will be enhanced as well to meet the UN Millennium Development Goal requirements.
Mr Chan said the 2010 Fee Free Education Project would not only benefit school children but also parents, because the family will have more money for other important priorities.
He said the project support will strengthen education cooperation between Taiwan and Solomon Islands.
Ambassador George Chan said that Taiwan is committed to improving the education in Solomon Islands through the various education activities, such as providing scholarships, short-term training courses and donating teaching materials.

Republic of China, Taiwan, has released $5 million dollars towards the governments "2010 Fee Free Education Project."
