The Ambassador H.E. George Chan this morning handed over a variety of items to the Burns Creek Community as a "small token from Taiwan Embassy and Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM)".

Mr. Chan added that the small token signifies a bright future to the Burns Creek Community in the course of building up their homeland.

The donation includes agricultural produces, carpentry equipments and livestock.

The Taiwanese Ambassador said that prior to the donation ceremony, he had made a short field trip in the community and "we paid much attention to the new developments in [Burns Creek Community]".

Under assistance from TTM, the community has been able to produce plentiful harvests of sweet corn fields, and pig farms have brought unexpected profits to the farmers.

Mr. Chan said this clearly indicates that the residents of the community have created job opportunities, have generated good income and have gradually improved their life.

Speaking at the handover, the Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Edward Kingmele, said the donation ceremony is a reflection of the on-going partnership between Taiwan and Solomon Islands.

"The occasion is another step in line with the bottom up approach policy, which starts at the rural areas, and also encouraging community participation as it is happening here today," he added.

He urged the Burns Creek Community to continue working together.

Mr. Kingmele voiced assurance of the government's commitment to maintain and strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
