The National Coalition for Reform and Advancement (NCRA) has claimed to have regrouped with 29 Members of Parliament to sign a Memorandum of Understanding endorsing the Member of Parliament for Gizo-Kolombangara, Hon. Gordon Darcy Lilo as its official candidate for today's Prime Minister's elections.
Two of the six candidates for the election, Central Honiara MP, Hon. Moffat Fugui and Gao-Bugotu MP, Hon.Samuel Manetoali, also signed the MOU.
In a spin of events last night, the East Honiara MP, Hon. Douglas Ete had also officially withdrawn Prime Ministerial race, leaving North Vella La Vella MP, Hon. Milner Tozaka as the Opposition's only endorsed candidate.
Opposition camp confirms Ete's withdrawal saying the MP's letter of withdrawal was delivered to the Governor General, Sir Frank Kabui last night.
According to Opposition officials, the East Honiara MP decided to withdraw after discussions of Opposition MP's on the pro's of having two candidates contesting the Prime Ministerial elections.
The outcome of the discussion from the Opposition was to go to parliament with only one candidate to remove any uncertainty among the group.
Support Remains Strong for Two Candidates
Hon. Gordon Lilo Darcy and Hon. Milner Tozaka now seem to be the top choice of both the Opposition and the Solomon Islands care taker government, the National Coalition for Reform and Advancement.
The Prime Ministerial Elections will be on schedule this morning as planned.
