Speaking at a press conference after Parliament meeting yesterday, Opposition leader, Mr. Fred Fono, said that although the former Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare was reluctant to resign, a majority vote ensured he was voted out.
The Opposition won 25 votes to the Government's 22.
Mr. Fono said he had an audience with His Excellency, the Governor General, Sir Nathaniel Waena, who said that nominations for Prime Minister will be open on Saturday 15th December 2007.
The press conference was informed that Parliament will reconvene Wednesday next week, 19th December 2007 to elect the new Prime Minister.
Mr. Fono said that a new Cabinet will be announced Thursday or Friday next week, and
will be sworn-in to take office.
The Opposition Leader, Mr. Fono, acknowledged the people of Solomon Islands for remaining calm while they solved the month-long political impasse.
