The commission is reviewing the Solomon's Penal Code, which was adopted in 1963 from the former British colonial government.
Australian Lawyer, Kate Halliday, is working with the Solomon Islands Law Reform Commission.
She told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat programme that the country's criminal laws are outdated.
She said it is a legislation that is pre-independence, very old fashioned criminal legislation that is based on English laws in existence in the early 1960s.
Sh said the laws in the UK and many other parts of the world that share that same legal heritage have moved on, and have undergone significant changes.
