The government of Japan funded more than SBD$1.3 million dollars under its Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP) to reconstruct the wharves damaged during last April's quake and Tsunami.
More than SBD$662,000 (US$85,000) is allocated for the rehabilitation of the Gizo Hospital Wharf and over SBD$642,000 (US$83,000) for the Gizo Main Wharf Ramp.
The Solomon Islands government acknowledged both Japan's humanitarian and financial assistance to the Tsunami stricken province.
Vital infrastructure in Western Provincial Centers including Gizo were destructed during the disaster which killed at least 52 people and leaving thousands homeless.
Details of the Japanese assistance will be made during the signing ceremony at the Japanese Embassy on Wednesday.
Sofu to Sign Japanese Infrastructure Assistance to Gizo
Minister for Infrastructure Development Stanley Sofu and Japanese Charge'd Affairs Akira Iwanade will jointly sign documents to start a Japanese government funded project to rehabilitate wharves at Gizo, Western Province.
