Opposition Leader, Fred Fono, yesterday served Sir Nathaniel a written request for the removal of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.
He asked that failing that, the Governor General to summon Parliament "to test the number through a motion of no confidence at the earliest possible time".
"With the resignation of nine Ministers and three backbenchers from Prime Minister Sogavare's Cabinet, it is clear that the Government does not have the Authority to continue in Government, as it no longer commands majority support of Members of Parliament," Mr. Fono said.
Mr. Fono said in light of the situation, the current Prime Minister no longer has the authority to advise Government House on any matters of state.
The Governor General in response has summoned Prime Minister Sogavare to justify if he still commands the number of MP's required to remain in power.
Meanwhile, a defiant Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare says he will not resign despite being deserted by nine of his cabinet members and three backbenchers.
Mr Sogavare told local journalists yesterday that he was voted in as Prime Minister by parliament and only parliament will vote him out.
