Mr Coppel said on behalf of all the members of the Regional Assistance Mission, he would like to extend their condolences to the people and Government of Tonga at the untimely death of their Leader, King George Tupou V.
Mr Coppel acknowledged the contribution of the late Highness and his Government towards the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.
He said RAMSI greatly appreciate the Tongan Government's unwavering commitment to the mission which it has demonstrated over the past nine years.
Mr Coppel said Tonga was among one of the first Pacific countries to contribute police officers, civilian advisers and military personnel to the mission. He added that the participation of personnel from Pacific countries like Tonga have been essential to the mission's success.
