Reports from Fiji state that the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Sir Michael Somare, and Prime Minister Feleti Sevele of Tonga flew into Fiji on Thursday to meet with the country's interim Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.
According to the Fiji Times Online, the meeting was held behind closed doors and the agenda kept secret. However, the 'Prime Minister's Office permanent secretary, Parmesh Chand, described it as a friendly gathering of leaders'.
The Fiji Times further adds that 'the media was barred from the venue and told there would not be any statement on what the leaders discussed'.
Fiji has been under a lot of pressure from not only its regional neighbors but also international communities and organizations to make a quicker progress towards democracy via the holding of democratic elections as soon as possible.
Commodore Bainimarama has reaffirmed that Fiji will hold elections next year.
