SISEP aims to significantly increase the reliability of energy supplies to Honiara over the next three years.
Government Communications Unit says the project will achieve this by working hard and closely alongside the SIEA to boost its management, financial performance, and the efficiency of its technical and maintenance operations.
It says the SISEP will also increase the reliability of Honiara power supplies through a number of measures, including: improving generator maintenance and overhauling existing generators; allocating resources to ensure electrical losses are reduced and reinforcing the distribution grid.
Solomon Islands has one of the least reliable energy supplies in the Pacific region, undermining both private and public sector development.
Meanwhile, Task Team Leader, World Bank's Ben Gericke said turning around the operations and finances of SIEA is critical for its customers.
He said SIEA's customers require much more reliable electricity, supplied at lower cost, and SISEP aims to achieve this.
