Speaking on the issue, Opposition MP Edward Huni'ehu, in a statement, encouraged Mr. Sogavare to attend the summit.

He stressed on the need for the Prime Minister to be at the meeting to explain statements and actions he made, which may have caused disappointment to other Forum leaders.

Mr. Huni'ehu said with many issues pointing to Solomon Islands' government, the meeting would be a crucial time for Mr. Sogavare to explain Solomon Islands' position on certain issues and statements coming from the government in relation to RAMSI and other Pacific island leaders.

He said although Solomon Islands values the relationship it has with Taiwan, the Prime minister should attend the meeting.

According to Mr. Huni'ehu, the Prime Minister's trip to meet with the Taiwanese President, Chen Shui-bian, in Majuro, and the Forum meeting were made known to Mr. Sogavare some time ago.

The Opposition MP said Mr Sogavare should have made arrangements to meet the President and attend the Forum meeting.
