Tales of Israel's financial assistance to Malaitans was rife throughout the provincial capital as talks between Israel and the provincial government towards an economic stimulus package began last week.
Acting Director of the Government Communications Unit, George Hermmings, told SIBC News that rumors being spread throughout Auki Township was that Israel would be sending millions of dollars in cash assistance.
Mr. Hermming said Premier Irosaea had made a strong warning against the rumors during the official opening of the talks on Tuesday.
Premier Warns Against False Rumors
Malaita Premier Richard Namo Irosae has called on certain movements within the province to refrain from promoting the cargo cult mentality "that Malaitans will be receiving millions of dollars from Israel."
