A PPF vehicle was stopped in the Lungga area last night and the driver left the vehicle to change a flat tyre.

The member received some assistance from the community, which was appreciated. However, when the member finished changing the tyre, it became apparent that somebody had stolen a personal backpack from the vehicle.

Commander of the PPF, Denis McDermott, said he was saddened to hear of the theft, particularly after the PPF had worked so hard in recent weeks to ensure the community was safe during the sittings of Parliament.

"The PPF have been working long hours in support of the Solomon Islands Police Force in the last few weeks to maintain law and order. To have someone steal personal belongings from a vehicle like this is very disappointing, especially so close to Christmas."

"I would like to ask for some community support in assisting the investigation and returning the belongings to the rightful owner," he said.

Police have commenced an investigation into the theft.
