The disturbances in certain areas around town occurred after the sentencing of the Fisheries Minister Jimmy Lusibaea.

Peter Marshall told SIBC News late yesterday evening that a couple of shops in China Town were damaged and a number of people were arrested for stealing and looting.

Mr Marshall also confirmed that a police officer was also injured after a brick was thrown at him, hitting his chin.

He says officers from the RSIPF and their RAMSI police and military counterparts did a good job working long hours yesterday, working throughout last night until today.

The police commissioner says those arrested will be facing court.
