According to the Solomon Islands High Commissioner in Port Moresby, Bernard Bata'anisia, the financial assistance by the PNG Government began in 2006 and as of the end of 2008, PNG government would have spent over 16-million dollars.
Bata'anisia stated that education is an important link between the two governments and PNG has offered to use its assistance to meet student tuition fees, allowances and other expenses while government chosen students attend course in various PNG institutions.
Mr Bata'anisia says that under this arrangement,the government sponsored students names are forwarded to the High Commission in PNG which are the forwarded to the appropriate ministry.
