The Prime Minister was accompanied by Guadalcanal Premier Stephen Panga and the member of Parliament for northwest Guadalcanal, Siriako Usa yesterday.
Julian Maka'a from the National Disaster Management Office who accompanied the three Guadalcanal leaders on the trip says they had the opportunity to look at the extent of damages which rivers in the area had caused.
He says the aerial view of the region of Northwest Guadalcanal is very devastating.
Mr. Maka'a says Takaboru village where seven people are reported missing was washed away by the Sasa river.
He says many people in the area who spoke about the disaster blame logging activities to have caused flooding and devastation to unprecedented levels.
He says Northwest MP Mr Usa said he would pursue an investigation into what may have caused the flooding.
Mr. Usa also said he is working with authorities to return normalcy to people in the affected villages.

PM Sikua Flies to Disaster Areas
Prime Minister Derek Sikua made a helicopter trip over Northwest Guadalcanal constituency and other areas which have been devastated by flooding during last week's torrential rains.
