The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands this week released a survey showing that an overwhelming majority of people are happy with the work of the mission. The survey also revealed that many fear a return to lawlessness should RAMSI leave prematurely.

However, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has stated that the survey lacks credibility since it was not sanctioned by government. Mr Sogavare said that, as such, the government will not accept the results of the survey.

Speaking to Radio New Zealand International, Opposition leader, Fred Fono, stated that the Prime Minister has decided to dislike the mission so he should do his own survey.

Mr Fono also warned Mr Sogavare and his advisors not to tamper with RAMSI because its presence over the past four years has allowed Solomon Islanders to move around and conduct their business freely and without fear.

RAMSI maintains that the survey was independently conducted by the Australian National University, using best practice methodology.
