The Parliamentary Opposition Group has welcomed the efforts taken by the Coalition C-NURA Government to weed out corruption in the country and calls on the ruling regime to begin within its camp.

This follows the launch of the government initiated series of anti-corruption workshop last week at which Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua called for public support.

A statement from the Office of Opposition Leader says it welcomes the efforts taken by the government to address corruption.

It says the Opposition group agrees with the Prime Minister that corruption is one of the major challenges to development in the country.

It says the anti-corruption initiative taken by the government is a move in the right direction.

But Opposition leader, Manasseh Sogavare says the C-NURA government must first tackle corruption within its own backyard.

He says government must be serious and committed towards the anti-corruption battle.

Mr Sogavare says corruption deprives Solomon Islanders of quality health, educational and development services they are entitled to from the government.
