Mr Talasasa revealed that eighty percent of cases received by his office are rape, incest and defilement, reflecting the high prevalence rate of sexually-related offences in the Solomon Islands society today.

He says while the high number of cases shows that more of these offences are being reported to the police authorities, it also questions the safety of our homes and society.

The Director of Public Prosecutions says his office will not take such cases lightly and will ask for tougher penalties on convicted offenders.
