The Ministry of Public Service warning comes as new political parties start launching their programs and announcements that more political groupings are putting together their manifestos for 2010 general elections.
Permanent Secretary Ishmael Avui has issued a circular advising permanent and provincial secretaries and heads of departments to inform their subordinates to refrain from involving in political campaigns.
He says public officers seen to be canvassing support or contributing resources to political parties or groups face serious misconduct in office.
Mr Avui says such action by public officers breach public service rules and regulations and could result in disciplinary action.
The Permanent Secretary says he has received reports from the public that some public officers have been soliciting support for certain political groupings are preparations continue for the upcoming general elections.
He appeals to these public officers to immediately stop their active political campaigns.
