This mid-term review is a precursor to a final assessment scheduled for July 2025, which will focus on identifying ways to enhance the current arrangements and ensure effective management of the labour mobility of semi-skilled and skilled Solomon Islanders to Niue.

In July 2024, the governments of Solomon Islands and Niue signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalise the pilot programme, which facilitates the deployment of retired nurses from Solomon Islands to support the aged care sector in Niue.

Currently, three retired nurses from Solomon Islands are employed in Niue, and the Niue delegation’s visit has resulted in positive feedback regarding their performance.

The Solomon Islands government continues to explore additional opportunities for future cooperation with Niue under this arrangement.
