Principal Magistrate, Mr. Michael Scott, found Hon. Shanel guilty on one count of unlawful wounding and also on possession of unlawful weapon in a restricted area.
The Hon. Peter Shanel was allowed bail while waiting to be sentenced on 26th August of 2008. The offences were committed when Mr Shanel was at the National Referral Hospital in Honiara on the 19th of August 2007.
It was understood that the Central Guadalcanal Member of Parliament caused serious injury to the defendant. The injury was from a knife during a scuffle which broke out at the front of the National Referral Hospital.
MP Shanel, Guilty on Two Charges
The Honiara Magistrates Court, found the Parliament Member for Central Guadalcanal, Peter Shanel, guilty on two criminal charges.
