Supervising Minister for Health and Medical Services Milner Tozaka confirms that Mr Maga underwent an urgent surgery over the weekend following medical tests.
He says Mr Maga's condition is critical and is being monitored closely by specialist doctors at the Sydney Saint Vincent Hospital.
Mr Maga was returning from the World Health Assembly in Geneva when he suddenly developed medical problems that required his admission to Saint Vincent.
The Government confirms Mrs. Maga flew to Sydney last night to be with her husband.
