MASI President, George Herming says this latest development highlights another growth in the local media industry.
He said it is exciting to see local media organizations now publishing on the Internet to disseminate news and information to readers outside of Honiara.
Herming said the website will certainly enhance the readership of Island Sun, especially those who cannot read the organizations daily newspaper.
The President added that the media plays an important role in promoting transparency and accountability and it is important that it reaches out to as many people as possible.
Mr Herming said that Island Sun has started only three years ago as tri-weekly and subsequently became a daily newspaper. Mr Herming said that the fact that it is now publishing on the Internet is in itself a milestone development.
The new site www.islandsun.com.sb was officially launched over the weekend.
