Acting Inspector Director, Howard Teraka, reported to Solomon Times from Gizo police station that the crime rate has been low since the April tsunami last year.

Mr. Teraka said that following the disaster, people have been too busy settling into camps and moving on with life.

"This has caused them not to engage themselves in criminal activities," he added.

Mr. Teraka said that so far, no hard crime has been committed, except "minor ones like drinking in public, simple larceny, pick pocketing committed especially by youths which is much easier to deal with".
