In his affidavit to the inquiry, former Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, said suspicion of Chinese support in the election of Snyder Rini as Prime Minister sparked anger among the people.

He said Solomon Islands-businessman, Sir Tommy Chan, who is also the President of the Association of Independent Members of which Mr. Rini was a member, accommodated Mr. Rini and his group at Honiara Hotel in the lead-up to the election of the Prime Minister.

Sir Allan said he suspects the riot was caused by accusations based on suspicion and incitement designed to ensure his group do not regain power.

Certain groups carried out activities that stirred up people against their group during the National General Elections campaign up until the lobbying for the election of the Prime Minister, he informed the Commission.

The perpetrators of the trouble put the words 'Chinese Government' into the mouths of the people, Sir Allan said.
