The United Nations is providing technical assistance, including coordination of the international electoral observers that have been invited by the Solomon Islands Election Commission.
The international observers will be drawn from a pool of experts from Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the US.
The UN's Resident Coordinator in the Pacific, Knut Ostby told Radio Australia this morning that the international observers will be reporting any problems that may arise at their various postings during the Solomon elections.
Mr Ostby said what the observers do is to provide a third party neutral observation.
He further stated that while the international observers will not take part in the actual conduct of the elections, they will have access to the polling stations to see what is going on and they will also be able to make statements to tell the public about their observations.

There will be up to 70 international observers in Solomon Islands for the August 4 elections.
