Called the Gizo International Mile Race, the race will become an annual International event to be held in December 7th each year at Gizo.
The event is an official programme for the Western Province Tourism Division to promote Tourism in the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been assisting the race with securing at least one overseas sporting icon to participate in the event.
It is expected that the presence of such a high profile athlete will help boost the country's image as a safe holiday destination.
A total of 300 runners are expected to take part in the event with a total of 40 prizes up for grabs.

A one mile race will be staged in Gizo next month to coincide with the Western Province Second Appointed Day.
