For the first time, Independence Celebrations have been held outside of the National Capital Honiara. Malaita Province is the proud host of the week-long event, which will conclude with the Independence celebrations on Friday.
The National Trade and Cultural Show are also being held in Auki, colorful traditional costumes were on display during its launching on Saturday. The National Trade and Cultural Show consist of three parts - trade, culture and agriculture.
Chairman of the show, Michael Maena, says ninety nine groups including companies and individuals have taken up stalls to display their products at the show.
Reports from the National Radio, SIBC, stated that religious services are being held in the evenings at the Auki Primary School venue, which hosts the cultural shows.
Thousands of people are expected to take part and attend the various activities leading up to the close of celebrations next weekend.
Hundreds Pour into Auki for Independence Celebrations
With two major events being staged in Auki, hundreds of people are pouring into the Malaita provincial capital from all parts of the country.
