Matangiki conceded their first defeat to a well spirited Airlines side 9-5 at the Panatina Oval yesterday. Veteran national and former Avaiki utility Blacky Mamata slotted home three penalty conversions for Airlines edging Matangiki at fulltime. The men in blue could do little with their second half try and failed to convert registering only five points.

Airlines' tight defence and excellent recovery rate frustrated the Matangiki side to concede errors and were penalized often in ruck situations and offside plays.

Airlines Veteran national Blacky Mamata converted a penalty early in the first half to put Airlines up 3-0 in the first half. Matangiki gave away two crucial penalties sealing Airlines match winning points thanks to the versatile goal kicker Blacky Mamata. Matangiki crossed the line for a try at the corner flag but failed to convert, ending the game 9-5.
