The Police Media office says the girl was last seen swimming in the sea at about 10.00am after her brother had come out of the water.
Relatives immediately raised alarm and alerted the Munda and Seghe Police when she was discovered missing.
Police have sent out messages in regards to the missing girl to members of the community around the Islands who have also responded in haste searching for the five year old but with very little hope.
The media office says Maritime Police in Honiara had dispatched its speed boat to assist the Munda and Seghe Police over the incident.
The missing girl is originally from Lord Howe Island and has been staying at Tusubona Island with relatives.
