A Noro police officer, Nakson Gumi, said the boy had miscalculated his jump from the moving vessel and ended up hanging at the edge of the wharf as the ship MV Bikoi-One was berthing.

Mr Gumi confirmed the ship slammed against the student against the wharf, fracturing his skull.

Mr Gumi says police helped to rush the boy to Helena Goldie Hospital but he died along the way.

He said according to medical doctors at Helena Goldie hospital, the boy died from fracture around his head, together with a broken spine behind his head.
