"The Congress will, for the next two weeks, look into the draft federal constitution, isolate different issues, terms, guidelines and also take people's point of views," the Congress Chairman, Sir John Ini Lapli, told Solomon Times.

He said seven committees have been appointed, with each committee tasked to look into different aspects of the constitution.

The Congress will later submit the draft legislation to a Convention of representatives of Solomon Islands political community.

The combined effort of the congress, consisting of local and overseas constitutional experts, will ensure the making of the constitution remains focused on the overall Solomon Islands community interest.

It is the intention of the government that the community must be given reasonable opportunity to be informed of the draft and comment on it before invited to indicate its support.
