Students involved in the activities said it would be nice to have a clean place to learn and to play. The students developed an action plan to clean up around the ablution block, as part of this week's Clean Up the World activities in Honiara.
The Clean Up Honiara campaign is being jointly organised by the Solomon Islands Red Cross Society, Honiara City Council -Youth Division, Australian High Commission, Honiara Beautification Committee and Live and Learn.
Activities will be held all week, in conjunction with the international Clean Up the World campaign. These activities include education workshops at schools in Honiara each day this week, an education program and tree planting activity at the Red Cross Special Development Centre on Friday 18th September, a Clean Up Honiara walk on Saturday 19th September starting from the Honiara City Council head quarters at 7.30am, and beach clean up on Sunday 20th September from 10am.
Clean Up the World is a community-based environmental program that inspires and empowers communities and individuals from every corner of the globe to clean up, fix up and conserve their environment.
Clean Up the World Campaign starts in Honiara
The Clean Up Honiara campaign was launched today, with an environmental awareness-raising program at Burnscreek High School. Students in the Form 1 - Green class learnt about the importance of keeping their school clean, for health, safety and hygiene reasons.
