Provincial Opposition Leader, Benedict Tahi, told SIBC News that the Premier and his Government had failed to deliver services it had promised the people of Makira-Ulawa Province.
Mr. Tahi says in view of that, he is calling on him to voluntarily step down.
The opposition leader says he will move a no confidence motion on the premier if he defies his call to voluntarily resign.
Mr. Tahi says among the projects, Premier Weape's Government has failed to deliver services to the people.
Meanwhile, Premier Thomas Weape had refuted the call for him to resign.
Responding to the criticism, Premier Weape told SIBC News that the Opposition leader, Mr. Tahi was making wild and blind accusations.
Premier Weape says provincial politicians tend to think that every plan and good ideas about development initiatives will automatically happen.
But Premier Weape says in real essence, it is easier said than done.
The Premier says while his government was doing everything possible to attain its development initiatives and goals, there are many reasons why progress is slow.
"Often the non-availability of grants from the national government to fund projects and services acts as the major stumbling block."
He says services and development projects can only be delivered effectively if money is available.
