It is believed that the young boy was with his sister aged six outside their home at Burns Creek when he, slid and fell into a nearby flooding stream.
Police believe the accident was witnessed by the girl but she could not do anything to help rescue her brother. The young girl alerted relatives and surrounding neighbours and a search was carried out until 3:00pm when they found the little boy's body downstream, near the Dalgro Company area.
Police were notified later in the afternoon and their enquiries are continuing.
Police are reminding members of communities living next to rivers to take extra precaution, particularly with the current unpredictable weather pattern.
