The Constituency Boundaries Commission is being tasked with reviewing constituency boundaries with the view of increasing the number of constituencies.
Special Secretary to the Prime Minister, John Keniapasia - a lawyer by profession had told the Solomon Star it is no longer possible to increase the number of constituencies by the coming election.
He says this is because the Constituency Boundaries Commission did not bring to Parliament its report by the last meeting before the process of voter registration takes place.
But the Chief Electoral Officer Polycarp Haununu disagrees with Mr Keniapasia, saying it is possible to increase the number of constituencies after the registration of voters.
Chairman of the Electoral Commission Sir Peter says this is a matter for the Constituency Boundaries Commission and Parliament to decide on.
"We are only waiting for the finalization of that particular issue. So I hope that the Boundary's Commission will provide the report, therefore Parliament to make a decision on. The Commission's report will either be accepted or rejected. There will be no changes to it by Parliament."
Boundaries Commission Yet to Table Report
Chairman of the Electoral Commission Sir Peter Kenilorea says he hopes the Constituency Boundaries Commission will table its report to Parliament at the next sitting in March this year.
