38 year old Bassam Tiba was arrested at the Honiara International Airport on Tuesday the 28th of October by Solomon Islands Police detectives after arriving in a flight from Port Vila, Vanuatu.
In court today a rather solemn Mr. Bassam did not oppose the extradition application. He will now be remanded in custody for the next 15 days while the application is being processed.
Solomon Times understands that Mr. Bassam is wanted in Australia for a murder charge. Tiba is wanted for allegedly stabbing to death Rashid Haddara, 30, at Thomastown, Victoria in 2004. He is said to have taunted police from Lebanon, saying they would never catch him.
Aussie to be Extradited, Faces Murder Charges
An Australian accused of murder can now be sent back to Australia after an extradition order was issued by the Attorney General's Office.
